Where there is no widow surviving but there are children of the decedent surviving him at the time of his death, who are under age, the children are allowed such an amount of property as would have been granted to her had a widow survived. The only condition is that the children shall be under age. This is sometimes extended by statute so that it covers all female children who reside with the decedent, regardless of such children's age.1
