Gebweiler (Fr. Guebwiller), a town of Germany, capital of a circle of Upper Alsace, situated on the Lauch in a valley of the Vosges mountains, 15 m. S. W. of Colmar; pop. in 1871, 11,338. It lias three gates, a fine promenade, two handsome churches, and many Swiss chalets and pleasant cottages on the slopes of Mount Gebweiler, the culminating point of the Vosges (4,700 ft.). There are manufactories of cloth, cotton goods, ribbons, chemical products, machinery, and other articles. Previous to the Franco-German Avar it belonged to the French department of Haut-Rhin.
