Johann Georg Albrechtsberger, one of the first modern masters of counterpoint, born in the neighborhood of Vienna, Feb. 3, 1736, died in that city, May 7, 1809. He was a pupil of the organist Mann. In 1772 he was made court organist, a member of the academy of music, and in 1792 organist in St. Stephen's church in Vienna. Beethoven and Seyfried were his pupils in counterpoint.
