Cramps are generally used for holding gun barrels together during soldering, although they can be bound together as a makeshift with stout binding wire. The heat is applied with iron or copper heaters, which are placed inside the barrels. The best flux for the purpose is sal-ammoniac. Baker's preparation can also he used as a soldering fluid.
