Shellac dissolved in a saturated solution of borax as a vehicle, chiefly for black, is sometimes used for lettering union blinds. So also are artists' tube-oil colours mixed with varnish or gold size. As a slight creeping of oil is unavoidable, the colour must be quick-drying. Tbe lettering can be done with size only as a preliminary, but no general treatment of the ground is possible.
