Have you ever made ink blot pictures? All you have to do is fold a sheet of paper in half, and on one half write your name or make some marks with a very inky pen. Before the ink has a chance to dry, fold the other side of the paper down over it. When you open the paper, you will find a queer blotted picture. Try it.

It is fun to work out new ways to write your name or initials. Have you ever noticed how very different printing looks when it is done with a wide pointed pen? If you can find pens with different size points, do a little experimenting in writing your name. Even with an ordinary pen point you can make very fancy writing. See how many different ways you can write your own initials.

Memory Drawing

Look at these figures while you are slowly counting to 20. Close the book and see how many you can draw from memory.

Designs And Pictures

What can you draw using only circles? They may be any size, hut always a circle. Use money, vases, bottles, or anything round you can find to make your outline. If yon have a compass, of course that will be the best way to make good circles.

Squares are boxes with each side equal in length. Can you make any drawings with only squares? Use a ruler for this.

Try some more drawings using only triangles. A triangle is a three-sided figure, and the sides do not all have to be the same length. Use a ruler to make these.

Picture Tracing

Have you ever traced pictures and made a copy with carbon paper? Put the carbon-shiny side down-on the clean sheet of paper, and on top of both of these, put your picture-face up. Trace the picture with a pencil, and the marks you make are printed on your paper.

You can make your own carbon, (or paper that works the same way) by coloring a thin sheet of paper with a black crayon. Lay the crayon side of the paper on your drawing paper, and put both of these under the page to be copied.-Try this with some of your funny papers, or a picture in a magazine.

If you have some thin tissue paper, you can see the outline of your picture through this, and trace a copy. Turn the tissue paper over on a clean sheet of drawing paper, and trace the outline again. You will find a copy of the picture printed on the bottom paper. (Use a soft lead pencil for this.)

If the picture you want to copy is drawn on only one side of the paper, you will be able to trace it by holding it up against the window pane-with your clean sheet of paper on top of the picture. You will be able to see the outline this way, and it will be easy to draw the copy.

Finger Painting

If you have never tried to finger paint, try this. The recipe below is for the paint. After it is cool, put a small amount in several little dishes, and color each one with a different dye-the kind of coloring used on birthday cakes. For paper, a glazed piece is best. If you have a roll of shelf paper, use that.

This kind of painting is done with your hands instead of a brush. Put a little dab of the paint on your paper and rub it around with your whole hand; add another color, and do the same thing-working in designs with your fingers. When the picture is done, it will make a very nice wrapping for a Christmas or birthday present. It will also make a good cover for a book.

Finger Paint

Mix 1 cup of soap flakes, 1 cup of starch, and 1/2 cup of talcum powder with 1 cup of cold water. Stir this into 7 cups of boiling water and cook until it is thick (about five minutes). Cool in a covered dish. To this mixture add your own coloring.
