The simplest form of cough syrup of good keeping quality is syrup of wild cherry containing ammonium chloride in the dose of 2.5 grains to each teaspoonful. Most of the other compounds contain ingredients that are prone to undergo fermentation.

The materials, in the shape of powders, are mixed well and sufficient fruit paste added to bring the mass up to 4,500 parts. Roll out and divide into lozenges weighing 20 grains each.
