Also known as Spotted Gunnel and American Butter-fish. Habitat, from Massachusetts to New York. They are taken in New York Bay and Newark Bay. Butter-fish are local and of limited range. They are small, and in form elongated. Fished for on shoals and among rocks. Swim rapidly when alarmed and are partial to mud bottoms.
