This little group has special appeal to the sportsman as his best-loved waterfowl and to children who delight in watching ducks on ponds in city parks.

The block size for the mother is 1 1/2 inches by 4 1/2 inches by 2 3/4 inches. Follow the direction of the arrow Figure 23 for the grain when laying out the pattern.

Start cutting at the arrow, Figure 24A, the widest portion of the body. Follow through, carving wings and rounding out the back. The wings,7/8 inch from tip to tip, are curved in slightly toward the center line of the back. Figure 25.

Work up the back toward the neck and head, thinning out the neck at the smallest portion to 7/16 inch. For the shape of the head, which is 3/4 inch wide, follow Figure 26.
