Paragraph 38. Hackberry is a timber which grows in nearly all parts of the eastern United States and is usually a tree of medium size, but in some localities, particularly in the lower Mississippi valley, it grows to be a large-sized tree.
The wood is of a yellowish white color with moderately fine texture. It is hard and strong and quite tough. It takes a good polish and has a handsome appearance, although it has not been adapted to general use for furniture making.
