A simple rack for books (Fig. 280) can be of any length desired, about six inches wide, and of half-inch stock (or slightly thinner), but the dimensions can be varied according to circumstances.
Before beginning work read carefully Marking, Rule, Square, Saw, Plane, in Part V., and look up any other references.
Be sure that the bottoms of the ends are accurately cut. The other edges can be rounded if you wish (see Spokeshave and
File). The hinges should be sunk in the wood, so that they will not injure the books (see Hinges).
