Q. I propose to put in my house a circulation-pipe, attached to the range as follows:

A, cold-water supply from street; B, hot water from boiler supplying several fixtures in basement; C, hot-water supply for upper floors; D, hot-water pipe from range to boiler; E, waste-pipe from boiler; F, circulation-pipe united to the pipe B and extending upward and uniting with the pipe C above the highest hot-water fixture.

The point on which I have doubt is whether the fixtures in the basement will injuriously affect the circulation through the pipe F. If you will kindly enlighten me, you will oblige.

A. There will be no interruption of the circulation in the pipes C and F, which will be apparent. Of course, water drawn at the sink, if drawn slowly, will have its temperature perceptibly affected by the return water from F, as it will mingle with it, but with ordinary use, with a good water-back, it should not be noticeable.
