The most common forms of tuberculosis in children are tuberculous peritonitis, enlargement of abdominal glands (tabes mesenterica), tuberculous enteritis, glandular tuberculosis, tuberculosis of bone, and pulmonary tuberculosis. The infection may arise through the food, or by inhalation from contaminated air. The majority of cases occur after two years of age. In the earlier stages the symptoms are often slight, consisting in a general lack of vigour, some degree of wasting, and anemia. If the temperature be closely observed at this stage, it is found that there is some irregular pyrexia. It will be convenient to treat this subject in the following order: -

(a) Prophylactic treatment of Tuberculosis in general.

(b) Dietetic treatment of abdominal Tuberculosis.

The treatment of the other forms has to be conducted along the lines already laid down.
