Remarks

The officinal ointment, which contains sixteen grains of biniodide to the ounce, is an active irritant, and is too strong for ordinary application, except when a decided stimulant or mild caustic effect is desired. In the treatment of lupus, however, it may be made much stronger, even in the proportion of one in four, or equal parts of biniodide and ointment, as Hardy sometimes employs it.
