Eng., Sodium Benzoate. Formula, NaC7H5O2
A white powder.
Odorless; a sweetish, astringent taste.
-In 1.8 parts of water or 61 parts of alcohol.
15 grains'(1 Gm.).
Antiseptic, stimulant, expectorant, diuretic, antipyretic.
Principally used in the treatment of genito-urinary diseases, as gonorrhea, cystitis, etc., particularly when it is desirable to increase the acidity of the urine.
Sodium Benzoate is the preparation most frequently used. The Benzoates may be administered in capsules or in solution in a vehicle, as water, peppermint water, or aromatic elixir.
In cystitis, gonorrhea, etc., with alkaline urine:
