The Cannabis, or Indian Hemp of commerce, consists of the dried flowering tops of the pistillate plants of Cannabis sativa and C. indica (Fam. Moraceae). It contains a resin, Cannabin.

Cannabis may be used as a cerebral sedative and hypnotic whenever the use of opium for that purpose seems inadvisable. It is efficient in only about 50% of all cases. Official preparations are: the Extract, the Fluidextract, and the Tincture.
