The oil of the black spruce, Picea nigra, Lk., already referred to in connection with the previous oil, is almost identical with hemlock oil. Sp. gr. 0,9228 at 20°; aD20o - 36,367°. Upon fractionation it distilled between 160 and 230°, the principal fraction passing over between 212 to 230°. It contains 48,85 p.c. bornyl acetate2).
