The leaves of Cory/us Avellana, L., a shrub belonging to the family Betu/aceae, contain a volatile oil with a spicy odor, which has been distilled with a yield of 0,0425 p.c, computed with reference to the dry leaves2). d25o0,8844; A.V. 60,4; E.V. 24,6; E.V. after acetylation 158. It begins to congeal at +30° and contains 18 p.c. of palmitic acid and a paraffin melting at 49 to 50°.
