An unmistakably ill-scented plant, found in low, wet ground. Nova Scotia to North Carolina, westward to Ontario, Minnesota and Iowa.

Flowers

Minute, scattered over a thick, fleshy club within its flower envelope, which is variously streaked with greenish yellow and madder purple, and appears just above the ground.

Leaves

From the base, large, often 1 foot across, strongly veined.
