Found in shallow water, swamps, chiefly near the Atlantic coast. New England to Gulf of Mexico.

Flowers

Yellow, minute, crowded on a club 1 - 2 inches long, terminating stalk 6 - 36 inches high; the stalk flattened just below the flower cluster.

Leaves

Dark green, oblong, long-stemmed, floating or erect.
