Found in fields, waste land. Newfoundland to New Jersey, westward to Kentucky, Iowa and Minnesota.

Flowers

Small, violet-blue, closely set on a 1-sided spike. Fruit a small pod.

Leaves

Tendril-bearing, divided into 18 - 24 narrow leaflets with bristle-like points.

Tare or Pea Vine.

V. americana. Flowers 3-9, slightly larger than those of the preceding. Leaflets 8-14, blunt; distinctly veined. Found in moist places. New York to Virginia and westward.
