The alloy steels are so various in composition that no general rule can be given for their hardening. The best method is to follow the directions given by the maker of each grade of this steel, and not attempt to harden all grades by the method one may be familiar with for hardening any particular alloy. However, many alloy steels are hardened by heating to a white heat and cooling in a blast of air - less rapidly than by quenching.
