A mode of cultivation in which the sowing of seeds in drills is adopted, instead of the more common method of broad casting. It is also called horse-hoeing husbandry, because the plants thus cultivated in rows admit being cleansed from weeds and earthed up by a machine drawn by one horse, and therefore called a horse-hoe. A great variety of machines are employed in this branch of agriculture. See Plough.
