A boiler can often be cured of rusting by giving it two or three coats of liraewash to which has been added a little size to act as a fixative; about the same proportions should be used as in making a whitewash for a ceiling, but builders' ordinary quicklime must be used. The first coat must be well rubbed in. Before applying the lime wash the boiler should be thoroughly cleaned, and as much rust as possible removed from the surface; then let it dry.
