To stain matchboardiug to imitate pine, procure some raw and burnt sienna, ground in water; the former gives the yellow tone of pine. Mix as much of this as is required in equal parts of stale beer and water. Apply with a brush, rub well in, and finish off in the direction of the grain with rag. When dry, it may be brushed over with patent size to prevent the varnish sinking. After both stain and size are dry, fill up nail holes, etc., with putty coloured to match. To finish, use ordinary spirit varnish or oil varnish.
