Enamel paints are made by grinding the colours either with copal varnish or with hard spirit varnish; copal varnish yields the finest and most durable paints, but for a brittle film use spirit varnish. The dry colours are, perhaps, the best for grinding with the varnish, but the grinding must be very thorough.
