To apply transfer gold leaf to gilt lines, rub the varnish down smooth and paint the lines to be gilded with equal parts of good oak varnish and japanners' gold size, into which has been worked a Little powdered chrome or ochre. In about half an hour, when tacky," apply the leaf; press in contact, and dust off the surplus with a camel-hair brush when the whole is finished.
