Finely powdered French chalk forms the white enamel used as a coating for pills. The pills are first dipped in a sugar syrup containing white of egg, then placed in the chalk in an agitating machine, the shaking thus polishing the outer surfaces of the pills and producing the enamel-like surface. The shaking could be done in a tin box if desired.
