Another important accessory for the Little Housewife is a small sized replica of Mother's folding ironing board. The board proper is a piece of f-in. stock 7 in. wide and 21/2 ft. long, shaped as shown in plan A, Figure 4.30. Four well-sanded, straight, furring strips less than 3 ft. long can be used for the legs, separated by lengths of dowel rod, as indicated.

As shown in the elevation (B), the front, or shorter legs rest against a 3/4-in. cleat screwed to the underside of the board 8 in. from the rounded front end (see dotted lines). The longer rear legs are pivoted freely on long screws with f-in. smooth shanks, driven into the ends of the rear cleat. As will be noted in C, the rear legs are "sprung" to permit easy folding.

Cover the board with a cloth pad tacked to the underside; the legs may be shellacked or varnished.
