Trace this pattern on a cake of soap. Remove excess soap to within 1/4 inch of your outline, then where the face will be, trace on the front of the pattern. Round the figures gradually and add details. When the figure is finished, a high polish can be obtained by rubbing with the palm of the hand or with a paper napkin.

Pelican

You'll have lots of fun watching this pelican take shape from your cake of soap. For the long, slender sweep of neck and bill, carve slowly and carefully downward. When you've accomplished this you'll want to try other birds, or this pelican, in a different position. For finished results, try applying poster paint.

Fish. Soap Fish And Bear Make Gay Figures

Both of these models can be made realistically from an ordinary cake of white soap. By following the directions already given you'll find them easy to make and fun to keep for your own pleasure or for that of your friends. In the case of the fish, color applied to the base of the carving, representing water, will greatly increase the beauty of the finished model. Ordinary poster paint or even water colors are suitable for coloring soap carvings, and you'll be pleased with the result.

Try carving and coloring Nursery Rhyme figures for gifts for the little tots. They'll love them!
